about

Shelter Calm's debut album, Initial, features the first 3 singles, Giraffe Radar, New Toys and Arrow Strike, all of which were selected by Fresh on the Nets Eclectic Picks. They have also been played multiple times on The Home-Brew Electronica Show, RETROFUTURISM 101, Radio Coolio, Artefaktor Radio, In The Moog and Synth City.

Shelter Calm itself is very much a product of lockdown - unable to play live or meet with the rest of his band to work on new music led him to seek another outlet for his musical creativity. For this, he turned to his library of musical sketches and, inspired by years of listening to electronic music, set about producing an electronic album - a musical departure from his band. And it was very much about taking the opportunity to record an entire album, something that is meant to be listened to start to finish - a complete journey rather than a collection of songs.

Drawing inspiration from Jean Michel Jarre, the soundtracks of John Carpenter, Orbital and early Warp releases, synths burble, beats pound and pads soar taking the listener on a journey that aims to move their hearts and minds as much as their feet.

Shelter Calm Nottingham, UK

Shelter Calm is the electronic side project of Stewart Cuthew, frontman for the band Time in Antarctica. inspired by years of listening to electronic music, but early Warp and Orbital particularly.

“Given some fireworks and a post apocalyptic landscape like the London Docklands in 1988 I’d think I’d be listening to Jean-Michel Jarre with Gary Numan dropping in for a visit.” - Fresh on the Net.
